7 Skin Hacks for Beautiful Glowing Skin
Ok so here it is. I have suffered from dehydrated and sensitive skin . And that’s everywhere —my scalp, my legs, all of my skin is constantly thirsty. It’s a hassle finding skincare, because one, I have to try the products out which leads to a coin toss between if it’ll give me an allergic reaction or not, and two, if it’ll be hydrating enough. I’ve gone through a plethora of products and have changed my water intake and diet. But I must admit, I love my wine (which is a top reason for the dehydration) and sometimes don’t get my daily 2 liters of water in. However, in the past year or so I’ve come up with skin hacks that have made a world of difference.
When trying out skincare or makeup, test on the inside of your forearm. Give it about 15 minutes. If no reaction occurs, most likely its a green light for your face.
Have a skin care regimen that works for your skin type. Avoid products with a laundry list of chemicals and ingredients. My favorite products are from The Ordinary and Naturopathica. They are simple formulas that execute and I find work great on people with sensitivities.
Use a facial serum, regular moisturizer and a deep moisturizer. I can’t get enough of The Ordinary’s “Buffet” serum. It’s a multi-peptide serum packed with hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a gem of an ingredient because it pulls water from the atmosphere to hydrate the outer layer of your skin. My favorite daily body and face moisturizer is the Moisturizing Cream by CeraVe. I started using this after I had a severe facial allergic reaction to something. It was the only thing that soothed my inflamed skin. It’s dermatologist developed and you can find it at your local target. At night I put on the Gotu Kola Intense Repair Balm by Naturopathica, which can also be used on the face and body. I had this recommended to me after a facial, and have seen a huge difference. No more patchiness!
Stay away from matte foundations as they can dehydrate your skin further. If you like the matte or satin look, opt for a sheer setting powder to lightly press through your t-zone.
Exercise. You’re probably wondering what this has to do with good skin. Getting your heart rate up and improving blood circulation helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to your skin which keeps it healthy, promotes collagen production, and promotes new skin cells which keeps it glowing. Also, you get extra thirsty when working out. I go through at least 32 oz of water when I hit a good workout. That’s halfway to the 2 liter goal!
Consume fruits and veggies that have a high water content. My favorite, which pair well together, are watermelon and cucumbers. These both also help rejuvenate and revitalize the skin.
And last but not least , Wooosahh! Take time to yourself. Even if it’s taking a few more moments than usual during your skincare routine to feel pampered. When you’re stressed your adrenal glands produce extra cortisol which limits your body on the water it can retain, AKA dehydration.
Don’t forget, consistency is KEY! Let me know on my last Instagram post how these work out for you or if you have any skin hacks to share !
